U.S. pop singer Ariana Grande promised the people of Manchester she would return to give a benefit concert after the May 22 suicide bombing that killed 22 and injured more than 100. And on Sunday, she made good on her promise before a sold-out crowd of some 55, 000 music lovers at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

The benefit to raise money for the victims of the terrorist attack featured appearances by Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Liam Gallagher, Coldplay, Marcus Mumford, Pharrel Williams, among others, according to Rolling Stone. It came together even though less than a day before the benefit, pedestrians on London Bridge were run down by an attacker in a van, killing seven people.

Grande, who herself survived the Manchester bombing, closed the show with a tearful rendition of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow,' reports Reuters.

"It's so upsetting. It's really hard," said Lekkia Howell, 16, to Rolling Stone. "Whether you knew someone or didn't, everyone has been affected one way or another. We've come together and that sense of community and love is quite amazing."

Grande's spirited return to Manchester prompted British tabloid journalist Piers Morgan publicly to apologize to her for previous unfair criticism.

"By coming back to Manchester so soon, shrugging off the latest attack in London, standing on that stage and performing with such raw emotion and power, you showed more guts, resilience, strength of character and 'Blitz spirit' than every sniveling, pathetic ISIS coward put together," wrote Morgan in the Daily Mail.
