Both former U.S. President, George H. W. Bush and his wife, Barbara Bush, were hospitalized earlier in the week in their hometown of Houston, Texas. Both President Bush and his wife will likely be unable to attend the inauguration of U.S. President Elect Donald Trump on Friday. President Bush, who is 92 years of age, is now in stable condition. He was admitted to the intensive care unit at Houston Methodist Hospital on Wednesday.
"[President Bush] was admitted] address an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia," related a spokesperson for the Bush family.
Barbara was also admitted into the hospital on Wednesday.
"[Barbara Bush was admitted] as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing," continued the statement released by the family via spokesperson.
As soon as the news of the hospitalization of the former First Couple became public, an outpouring of well wishes began.
"41 and Barbarathinking about you both and sending wishes for a speedy recovery. Love, 42," tweeted Clinton on Wednesday.
41 is a reference to George H. W. Bush being the 41st President of the United States of America. Although Clinton defeated Bush in the 1992 U.S. Presidential Election, the two became very close and work together on multiple projects including charity endeavors.
"They have not only dedicated their lives to this country. They have been a constant source of friendship and support and good counsel for Michelle and me over the years," said U.S. President Barack Obama.
