The president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., has admitted to attending a meeting at Trump Tower in New York City on June 9, 2016 with a Russian lawyer with reported connections to the Kremlin who said she had damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

Now, Trump Jr. has released a flurry of emails between himself and an intermediary, Rob Goldstone, setting up the meeting with a "Russian government attorney" who could provide dirt on Hillary as "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump," according to a report by The New York Times.

The emails explicitly indicate Russian government involvement in an effort to discredit Hillary Clinton and show Trump Jr.'s eagerness for the Trump campaign to benefit from it.

In a June 3 email to Trump Jr., Goldstone said he was contacting him on behalf of Emin Agalarov, one of Russia's most popular music stars whose father is Aras Agalarov, a real estate mogul who claims to have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting," Goldstone wrote. "The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealing with Russia and would be very useful to your father."

Trump Jr. responded to the proffer of information by saying, "If it's what you say I love it."

The president's son tweeted what he claimed to be the entire email exchange after learning that the Times was about to publish it.
