Coffee lovers have something to smile about, as a new study says that drinking up to four cups of your favorite drink every day will not damage the user's health.

Scientists made the discovery after reviewing more than 740 studies into the effects of caffeine on humans.

Researchers found that consuming 400mg the equivalent of four cups was safe for adults. Four cups of coffee have long been deemed the limit.

The researchers said so long as this quantity isn't regularly exceeded, there is no need to worry about the consumption.

The researchers also found it to be true for 300mg for pregnant women the equivalent of three cups.

Although caffeine has been found to reduce inflammation and boost brain function, it has also been linked to heart disease and dementia.

Caffeine the most available and widely used psychoactive substance in the world is also known to cause and worsen anxiety.

To determine coffee's effect on health, scientists conducted a review of studies published between 2001 and 2015.

Researchers examined five effects of caffeine on health: acute toxicity, bone, heart, brain and reproductive.

According to lead author Dr. Eric Hentges, executive director of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI), their research provides evidence that furthers the understanding of caffeine on human health.

"This provides the research community with data and valuable evidence to support the development and execution of future research on caffeine safety that will impact public health," Dr. Hentges said.

Dr. Hentges added that their study concluded that the previously-defined levels of caffeine intake in a healthy caffeine consumer were not associated with obvious, adverse effects.
