James Harden and Daryl Morey made a case for the Rockets guard to be the league MVP.

This season in the National Basketball Association has seen several Most Valuable Player candidates including Harden, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, and Kawhi Leonard. Harden has 21 triple doubles on the season, which is an incredible number, but it was overshadowed by Westbrook, who achieved an NBA single season record of 42 triple doubles, doubling the mark from Harden. Westbrook and his historic season have a narrative that many journalists are saying is worthy of the MVP.

The Rockets have a better record on the season (54-26) than Westbrook and the Thunder (46-34). They will meet each other in the first round of the playoffs with the Rockets having the home court advantage. According to Harden, that should be all the MVP is about.

"I thought winning was what this is about. Period," said Harden in an interview with the Houston Chronicle."I'm not going to get into depths on that, but I thought winning is the most important thing. If you set your team up to have a chance at the ultimate goal, that's the most important thing."

"AAU...All-Star game...Draft Lottery...2017 MVP race. Basketball is losing its focus on winning," tweeted Rockets GM, Daryl Morey. "More context: '62 MVP #1 Bill Russell (60 Wins-20 Losses),#2 Wilt Chamberlain (49 W-31 L), #3 Oscar Robertson (43 W-37 L, avg triple double)..@JHarden13 should be more clutch in these Ws: Rockets 128-Nuggets 110, Rockets 111-Jazz 102, Rockets 109-Mavericks 87,Rockets 128-Magic 104."
