Knife-wielding man arrested while seeking Ivanka Trump

A man armed with two throwing knives, wearing a bullet-proof vest, and claiming to be a U.S. senator was arrested at Trump Tower Thursday after trying to see the president's eldest daughter.

A man armed with two throwing knives, wearing a bullet-proof vest, and claiming to be a U.S. senator was arrested at Trump Tower Thursday after trying to see the president's eldest daughter.

Adames Benitez, 52, entered the atrium of Trump Tower in Manhattan about 4 p.m. and asked to see Ivanka Trump, according to NBC New York. In addition to the knives and bullet-proof vest, Benitez had a weighted sock and a phony ID in his possession, He also said he was the owner of Trump Tower.

Officials described Benitez as mentally disturbed and transported him to Weill Cornell Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation, a report by Newsweek said. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a forged instrument.

"He was trying to meet with Ivanka Trump to discuss her dresses," the NYPD's deputy commissioner of public information told Newsweek. "He was discovered to be wearing a bullet-resistant vest further investigation revealed he had a forged identification card."

Ivanka Trump, who acts as special advisor to her father, was not in New York, but in Poland Thursday before heading to the G20 conference in Hamburg, Germany. She now lives in an upscale neighborhood of Washington, D.C., with her husband Jared Kushner, who accompanied her on Thursday's trip, and their two children.
