Madonna has denied rumors that she is attempting to adopt more children from the African nation of Malawi.

The 58 year old pop icon adopted two children from Malawi. In 2006, she adopted an 11 year old boy named David Banda and in 2007 she adopted an 11 year old girl named Mercy James. She was attacked for the adoptionsin the media, by relatives of the parentsof the two children, and on social media.

"I was accused of kidnapping, child trafficking, using my celebrity muscle to jump ahead in the line, bribing government officials, witchcraft, you name it," explained Madonna. "I applied to an international adoption agency and went through all the bureaucracy, testing, and waiting that everyone else goes through when they adopt."

"[Adopting] was an eye-opening experience. I could get my head around people giving me a hard time for publishing my Sex book, even kissing Brittney Spears at an awards show, but trying to save a child's life was not something I thought I would be punished for."

The BBC has reported that the "material girl" has returned to Lilongwe, Malawi to adopt more children. Malawi government spokesman Mlenga Mvula revealed that Madonna had appeared before a High Court judge for an adoption ruling. Madonna rejected the claims on Wednesday.

"I am in Malawi to check on the children's hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi and then heading home," said Madonna, who founded a charity in the country in 2006.
