Human bones found in Aruba are undergoing DNA testing at the request of David Holloway, father of the 18-year-old Natalee Holloway who disappeared in Aruba in 2005. David Holloway said on the "Today" show Wednesday that the bones could be his daughter's remains but that he will avoid drawing any conclusions until the DNA results are in.

"They are in the testing process," he said, adding that it could take several weeks for the DNA analysis to finish. "It's a reputable lab and that's all I can tell you at this point."

Natalee Holloway went missing on the last day of her graduating high-school class's trip to the island nation, and an 18-month investigation failed to find her or her remains. Joran Van Der Sloot was arrested on suspicions of murdering her but eventually released without charges filed.

Van Der Sloot was re-arrested for another murder case and is now behind bars. He has more than once confessed to either killing Natalee Holloway or seeing her die but has retracted or changed his confession more than once.

This year, human bones turned up on an Aruba beach while David Holloway and a private investigator were in Aruba to pursue new leads while filming a new TV series, "The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway," for the Oxygen Network. The bones were sent to a U.S. lab, where they are now under DNA testing.

Holloway's case drew extensive media coverage at the time. But the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, a national database of missing people, said that 750,000 new missing persons cases arise every year, on average, and that an average of 90,000 people are missing in the United States at any given timeof which more than 50,000 are adults.
