Priyanka Chopra has revealed that she was racially abused in her first time living in the United States as a teenage schoolgirl.

The 34-year-old, who is covering June's Glamour Magazine, told the publication that she was picked on badly in high school, leaving her to opt for a return to her native India.

The Quantico star, who has successfully made the transition from Bollywood to Hollywood, said that she came to live with an aunt when she was 12 years-old.

"I went with my cousin to her school, and it was so fascinating to me. Nobody wore uniforms. You had lockers. What my cousin said was really easy. I was like, 'Ok, I don't have to study,' and I would get A's" Priyanka said.

Priyanka - who went on to win Miss World in 2000 said she convinced her mom to study in the United States. She lived in Iowa, New York, Indianapolis, and Boston.

She, however, said that the negative aspects outweighed the positives, and she returned to India after three years thanks to racist bullying in school.

"There was this girl who was a major bully that girl in school used to call me 'curry'", Priyanka told the publication, adding that Indians are afraid of letting people see the glory of who they are.

Chopra voiced her belief that she doesn't believe there's a huge understanding of Indian culture in the United States, saying that the fault lays with Indians, who tend to forget their roots a bit.

Priyanka showcased her stunning looks in a sexy semi-clad shoot for the glamour magazine.
