Second actress accuses George H.W. Bush of lewd comments and touching

George H.W. Bush is in hot water for the second time this week for putting his hand on an actress's rear. An apology statement by Bush's spokesman said that the incident was a "routine" joke that Bush has done repeatedly and that he meant no harm.

George Bush the Elder made his second apology in 36 hours Thursday after another actress accused him of "sexual assault." A Bush spokesman admitted that the former president had "patted women's rears" but insisted that he'd meant no harm.

The incident occurred in Maine following a performance of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Bush and his wife, Barbara, posed for a group photo with actress Jordana Grolnick and several others. Grolnick told Deadspin this week that the former president was in a wheelchair next to her and put his hand around her behind, after which he squeezed her flesh and said to the group: "Do you want to know who my favorite magician is?' As I felt his hand dig into my flesh, he said, 'David Cop-a-Feel!'"

Her story was similar to a Tuesday Instagram post by Heather Lind, now starring in the AMC historical drama Turn: Washington's Spies. Lind alleged that Bush had put his hand on her rear while she posed next to him, his wife, and several other celebrities for a group photo during a promotional even for Turn in 2014.

Jim McGrath, Bush's spokesman, acknowledged Lind's account in a statement that said that Bush "apologizes if his attempt at humour offended Ms. Lind."

McGrath's Thursday statement described the president's behavior as a "good-natured" joke: "To try to put people at ease, the president routinely tells the same jokeand on occasion, he has patted women's rears in what he intended to be a good-natured manner. Some have seen it as innocent; others clearly view it as inappropriate."
