Westbrook, who is averaging a triple double on the season, is tied with Oscar Robertsonwith 41 triple doubles on the season, the most in NBA history.Westbrook ended the game two assists shy of the record. Suns players admitted that they were trying to keep Westbrook from achieving his triple double but also said that he was chasing the mark outside the scope of natural basketball plays.
"That's all he was trying to do. He was wide open trying to find guys. We stuck to them, ran guys off the line and it didn't happen," said Suns guard, Tyler Ulis.
"I mean, I was 6-for-25. F---, I mean, what you want me to do? I wasn't making the shots, so somebody else can help. My job is to see what's going on and try to find guys that make some shots, and maybe we can get something going. But it wasn't falling for me tonight" said Westbrook in response. "I wasn't playing for records since I've been in the league. This is my ninth year. I play the same way every single night. Record or no record, I compete at a high level, and that's what I do."
Oklahoma City Thunder coach, Billy Donovan, also denied that he was trying to get Westbrook to achieve a triple double after the game.
