Suspend Jared Kushner's security clearance, say House Democrats

Cummings also made a demand for all documents related to Kushner's contacts with Russian government or business officials.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee has sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus asking that the security clearance of President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, be suspended pending the outcome of the Russia investigations.

"When there are credible allegations that employees may be unfit to continue accessing classified information, security clearances are supposed to be suspended while the allegations are investigated," wrote Cummings, as reported by ABC News. "Mr. Kushner reportedly failed to disclose contacts with dozens of foreign officials on this security clearance application."

Cummings also made a demand for all documents related to Kushner's contacts with Russian government or business officials.

While the FBI has not said Kushner is a target of its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, sources have told ABC News that the undisclosed meetings between Kushner one of Trump's senior advisors and Russian officials are being looked at by federal investigators.

That Kushner's security clearance has not been suspended despite failing to reveal his Russian contacts is extremely unusual, said legal expert and national security lawyer, Bradley Moss, in the report. Moss said it is the first time he has heard of an interim security clearance being allowed to someone who failed to disclose communications with a foreign government.

"It's highly out of the ordinary for how it's supposed to be done," said Moss.
