The moon, in essence, is a sphere just like the earth and other celestial bodies. However, it appears that the moon has different densities on individual points of its circumference. This higher density in sections of the moon offers the earth a greater magnetic attraction.
This magnetic force attracts with the earth, and that side of the moon stays in alignment with the earth for a longer time. These phenomena result in uneven rotations of the moon around the earth. Sometimes the moon revolving time is stretched as a result.
"The Moon is pretty round; it's set up much like the Earth with a core of iron, surrounded by a mantle of other rocks, and topped off with a crust between 21 and 27 miles thick, at the surface," said astrophysicist Jillian Scudder. "As far as we can tell, each of those components is pretty perfectly centered within the sphere that makes up our Moon."
The astrophysicist explains that thought the moon's core is made up of very similar elements to the earth's, its distributes these minerals quite differently.
As such its density from point to point is entirely different, making the surface more attracted and inclined to certain points. However, the astronomist also said that the difference is subtle due to the moon's small size about the earth. But all the same, through intense calculation she could be able to prove her theory.
