Trump, on stage with Mexican president, again demands that Mexico pay for border wall

The two leaders were scheduled to meet in January, but Nieto had cancelled that meeting as tensions between them over the wall were at a high point.

President Trump appeared on stage next to Mexican President Nieto at the G-20 Summit on Friday and used the occasion to tell reporters that he still "absolutely" wants Mexico to pay for his multi-billion dollar Mexico-U.S. border wall. Nieto did not give any indication that he intends to do so, however.
Trump made this remark in response to a question from Darlene Superville, an Associated Press reporter. Superville's question was: "Mr. Trump, do you still want Mexico to pay for the wall?"
Trump and Nieto met privately after this joint appearance to discuss bilateral trade and other issues. Neither one raised the subject of the wall, according to Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray.
This talk was the first time that Trump and his Mexican counterpart have met since Trump's January inauguration. The two leaders were scheduled to meet in January, but Nieto had cancelled that meeting as tensions between them over the wall were at a high point.
Trump threatened to place a 20% tax on Mexican imports to fund the wall later that month. And less than a month ago, he suggested that putting solar panels on the wall to produce marketable energy would mean that "Mexico will have to pay much less money, and that's good."
The wall is one a campaign promise that Trump has been struggling to get through Congress, whose latest federal budget does not allocate any funds toward building the wall. Customs and Border Protection is now reviewing design proposals from potential private contractors and intends to make a final selection in September, but the agency declines to say when construction work will begin.
