The model, who is married to musician John Legend, has revealed how she has experienced severe back and wrist pain.
She has also revealed how she has struggled with eating and her work commitments since welcoming her 'perfect' daughter in April.
In an open letter in US Glamour, Chrissy revealed that she discovered she was suffering from postnatal depression in December and had decided to speak out that the condition can happen to anybody.
Teigen said that for long periods of time she was unable to leave the house. She shut herself away in the dark, and barely moving from 'the exact same spot' all day.
It was after her return to work on TV show Lip Sync Battle four months after giving birth to her daughter that she realized she was 'different than before.'
"I had everything I needed to be happy. And yet, for much of last year, I felt unhappy. What basically everyone around me but me knew up until December was this: I have postpartum depression," Teigen wrote.
Known for being celebrity voice on social media who openly shares her views on topical issues such as politics, Teigen said that she found it difficult to postnatal depression.
"postpartum does not discriminate. I couldn't control it, and that's part of the reason it took me so long to speak up" Teigen said.
She revealed that she is now taking an antidepressant and is also in therapy.
Teigen said that the reason she decided to speak up was that people could know that postpartum depression can happen to anybody.
