Steve Bannon lashed out at his former boss's son over the latter's infamous Trump Tower meeting with Russians during the 2016 election campaign, calling the get-together "treasonous" and "unpatriotic" in an interview with author Michael Wolff for Wolff's now-released book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. Wolff also quotes Bannon as saying that prosecutors are "going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV."

Bannon, a chief editor of the right-wing Breitbart News, was the Trump campaign's chief executive for the final three months leading up to the election and served as President-elect Trump's chief White House strategist. He returned to Brietbart News after Trump fired him last August.

Wolff compiled interviews with Bannon and around 200 other players close to or in the Trump administration for Fire and Fury. The book reveals the inner dramas, infighting, and stresses of crisis management within the Trump administration and quotes some of Trump's closest allies expressing contempt for the president.

Bannon still publicly supports Trump. But he didn't hold back with Wolff on Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and then-campaign-chairman Paul Manafort for their decision to meet June 2016 with Russian contact who had promised them damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

"The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower with no lawyers. They didn't have any lawyer," Bannon said. "Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it's all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately."
