Robert De Niro penned a letter to Meryl Streep thanking her for her Golden Globes speech.

Streepreceived a standing ovation before even giving her speech, which was a polemic against United States of America President ElectDonald Trump. In the speech, Streep spoke about how dangerous it was for an American president to express xenophobic sentiments.

"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you'll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts," said Streep.

Streep was anti Trump in her speech and also pro immigration. Some attacked Streep for providing possibly erroneous evidence in her speech and for publicly exhibiting incoherence with the President of the United States of America. Many in Hollywood, however, have expressed similar sentiments to those of Streep and she was widely praised in entertainment circles.De Niro joined the choir, writing a letter in praise of the courage of Streep. The letter was published by PEOPLE.

What you said was great. It needed to be said, and you said it beautifully. I have so much respect for you that you did it while the world was celebrating your achievements. I share your sentiments about punks and bullies. Enough is enough. You, with your elegance and intelligence, have a powerful voice one that inspires others to speak up as they should so their voices will be heard too. It is so important that we ALL speak up.

We love you.
