Senator Marco Rubio said on Sunday that notes from President Donald Trump's meeting with two top Russian officials should go to the committees investigating Russia's involvement in the US presidential election.

While talking to CBS's 'Face the Nation, ' the Republican admitted that he had not seen the notes after he was queried about a report that Trump called former FBI director James Comey a "nut job" during the meeting earlier this month.

"I encourage them to make those notes available to the committees, " Rubio said.

During the meeting, Trump also reportedly said his decision to fire Comey eased "great pressure."

In the CBS interview, Rubio noted that much of the drama coming out of the White House had a resemblance to Trump's campaign.

Speaking to CNN's "State of the Union" on the same day, the Florida Senator warned that the "cloud" of questions surrounding Russia's attempts to influence the US elections.

"This cloud is impacting everything else, "Rubio said, adding that he believes that the White House would agree with him.

Rubio, who is a member of the State Intelligence Committee, said he would refrain from assuming a "firm position" until the committee wraps up its investigation and issues a report on its findings.

The New York Times this week reported that Comey kept records of his interactions with President Trump, including a memo documenting requesting that the Bureau drop an investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

The Senator's comments add to the chorus of top Republicans saying that questions about contacts between associates of Donald Trump the Kremlin and the controversy surrounding the dismissal of former FBI Director James Comey are impeding the GOP's agenda.
