Less than a week after the Senate Intelligence Committee heard former FBI Director James Comey's testimony, it will hear a response testimony from Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Sessions will appear before the committee on Tuesday, June 13, to weigh in on the investigation into Russia and the Trump campaign.

The attorney general has not specified if he will testify in public or in private. But he set the hearing date himself. He was already scheduled to attend meetings of the House and Senate Appropriations committees that day but has opted to send a deputy to that hearing in his place while he personally appears before the Intelligence committee.

"In light of reports regarding Mr. Comey's recent testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, it is important that I have an opportunity to address these matters in the appropriate forum," he said in a statement.

Sessions' hearing on Tuesday may include questions regarding another undisclosed meeting that Sessions may have held with the Russian ambassador. Investigators had already learned in March of two secret meetings Sessions had with the ambassador during last year's presidential campaign, and the fallout over this revelation led to Sessions recusing himself from the Russia investigation. Since then, Comey has alleged that there was a third meeting that Sessions never disclosed either.

Sessions will likely also face questions over what he knows about Trump's firing of Comey. Comey told the committee last week that Trump had expelled Sessions from a meeting once in order to press Comey one-on-one to drop the investigation into Trump's now-former national security advisor, Michael Flynn. Comey said he had also expressed some concerns about Trump to Sessions before his firing but gotten no response from the attorney general on them.
